Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP)

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) can be a set of tools and techniques which can be used in effective communication, personal development and psychotherapy; NLP was introduced by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the Santa Cruz Mountains in 1970s.


Richard Bandler was a mathematician and John Grinder was a linguist. Two of them met up to model what people who are really effective with communication do and experimented with reproduce that model persons. Since then NLP has improved in scope with lots of models, tools and techniques created by various NLP practitioners.

There’s two ways in which we can think about neuro-linguistic programming;

1.    The first method is as a set of modeling tools used to observe, model and reproduce excellence in any field.

2.    The second approach is as a set of standard techniques that have been archived over the years due to NLP research for example swish pattern technique and six-step reframe technique.

What exactly is NLP good for?

It is really an important reason to enable you to get fired up about learning NLP. NLP can help you;

?    Manage your internal state

?    Stay resourceful during stressful times

?    Give a high degree in behavioral flexibility in difficult situations

?    Increase the speed at which you learn

?    Become an even more influential member of your family, friends, team, etc.

NLP is great for identifying the key elements inside a system or in an operation that really makes the difference, modeling it, testing it after which reproducing it. It is possible to use an NLP to model not simply something that someone does well however you can use it to model what many people would consider a pathology.

This generalization happens through comparison from the data you absorb using the information you already have in your head. The picture or the story you've got in your mind relating to a certain subject is called internal representations in NLP. Whenever we absorbs some information external to world we create a picture from the sounds, the smells, the tastes, the touches, etc. that individuals feel relevant to us and compare the identical with the existing images of our mind. So differing people have different pictures kept in their minds. However this comparison could lead to different generalizations based on your physical and mental state.

It’s important also to mention that when we talk about the meaning, there’s a difference between a physical sensation in your body along with what you make that physical sensation mean. Many people are very afraid having certain feelings and definately will do anything they can to stop it. But here’s something to think about; the actual physical sensation of terror and excitement is the same. They are about the same; the center rate gets elevated, hypertension goes and up sometimes the palms can get a little sweaty. An additional way to look at is the physical sensation driving your car or truck off a cliff for your fiery death is certainly going be the same as the dropping feeling when you're going down your favorite rollercoaster!

That means the physical sensations happening in your body are never almost anything to actually be afraid of. Are they all scary is the meaning we make about it. When a person begins to have a panic attack it’s not the truth that blood pressure has gone up a little bit or the heart rate moved up a little bit, that’s not the problem. The problem is what they tell themselves what which means in their mind or what you think this could cause.

So since we is only able to pay attention to a very tiny amount of information at a time, an enormous amount of information accessible to us at our fingertips are ignored. However since information is more easily available than ever before it’s logical to visualize that we will find information to support whatever we want to believe. For instance, a google search gives millions of results in a half a second to support anything we would like to believe.

To realize this better think should your brain is like a stereo receiver now at this time. Now there are different r / c around you. But you are only able to tune into only 1 station at a time together with the exclusion of everything else.

Therefore the question is how we evaluate which to delete and store in generalization. It is the person’s personality profile that determines what’s important; as an example if someone is more security-based they may be thinking about safety when presented with the new experience. However, there is certainly risk that we may miss something totally obvious!

The actual here is that we reply to our picture of reality although not the reality itself. So all meanings are subjective and even more importantly, if you don’t like the way you're feeling about something, you can change it!

And this is what NLP is all about. It is a set of techniques which can help you change more effectively more rapidly and more rapidly than every other technique!
